Services that tap into Linda's diverse experience

About Script Assessment Services

Linda is internationally recognised for her expertise not only in conventional film forms, but in non-linear, parallel narrative film structures, for example, films using flashback, time jumps, multiple stories in tandem and in sequence and ensemble films.

Linda’s approach is based on her internationally-acclaimed screenwriting book Screenwriting Updated (Australian edition entitled Scriptwriting Updated)

Consultancy Services Available

Dollars are $US dollars.

Career Advice $(US)100 per hour (payable in advance)

Sometimes you just want practical advice like where and how to place a certain piece of writing, or how to get a start in the industry). A call to Linda can provide a fund of information and save you time and trouble down the line. If Linda can’t answer your question, she will usually be able to put you on to someone who can.

Reader’s Report $(US) 380 (payable in advance)

If you are simply looking for an expert opinion on your script’s commercial viability and a general idea of its strengths and weaknesses, a Reader’s Report from Linda is a sensible start. If your script is an adaptation or a non-linear or alternative structure piece, Linda will ask you to have a Reader’s Report initially, so that she can recommend how best to proceed.

Traditionally, film studios hired readers to sift through scripts and provide a very brief report on each script’s plot and commercial potential, along with a quick summary of its strengths and weaknesses. Never designed to assist script development, Reader’s Reports do not contain practical advice on fixing problems and developing strengths.

From Linda, you will receive a two page Reader’s Report written after several readings (not just one), plus if you include a SAE, the unique bonus of your script returned with useful marginal comments in different coloured pens for each reading.

Linda strongly recommends that you use the Reader’s Report only as a start, then pay the additional fee to go on to a Funding Application Report, which will help you take your script to the next stage.

Funding Application Report
(recommended to accompany script development applications)) $US760 Deposit of $US380 payable in advance.

Funding Application Reports are an excellent option for writers who are seeking script development funding and need to provide a proper diagnostic report indicating how the script might be successfully taken to the next draft. They are divided into two parts. The first part is a Reader’s Report (see above) and the second part is an intensive diagnostic report. If Linda has already provided a Reader’s Report on the script, you pay only $US380 more for the Funding Application Report (providing you are asking Linda to work only on the draft that she has already read for the Reader’s Report).

Funding Application Reports offer

  • Pre-report diagnostic questionnaire
  • The option, in the questionnaire, to ask Linda to address specific problems in the current draft of the script
  • Multiple readings across several days
  • Reader’s Report (2 pages)
  • Detailed written report providing comprehensive structural analysis, breakdowns of plots, and in-depth suggestions to consider for the next draft (3000 words minimum)
  • Script annotations in different pen colours (provided SAE included)

If you have a Funding Application report, Linda requires you to sign a Letter of Agreement undertaking to pay as agreed and to give her a screen credit as script consultant.

Extended Consultancy (fee quoted after Reader’s Report)

Extended Consultancies cover complex or problem scripts, for example, adaptations, or scripts with complicated narrative structures, like multiple protagonists or flashbacks. Extended consultancies give you a lot of Linda’s time and expertise. They are not cheap because they often involve highly-skilled and time consuming diagnostic work like complete script re-structuring. If you choose an Extended Consultancy, Linda requires you to sign a Letter of Agreement undertaking to pay as agreed and to give her a screen credit as script consultant.
Extended consultancies feature

  • Reader’s report
  • diagnostic questionnaire
  • multiple readings across a couple of weeks
  • the option, in the questionnaire, to ask Linda to address specific problems in the current draft of the script

  • extremely detailed written diagnostic report featuring in-depth analysis, structural breakdowns and a variety of suggestions for the next draft (usually ten thousand words or more)
  • pre-clinic telephone discussion
  • full day script clinic.

Note: Extended Consultancies are not available without Linda first completing a Reader’s Report. The cost of the Reader’s Report will be deducted from the Extended Consultancy Fee if you decide to go ahead.
