One Day TV Series Plotting Master Class

Experience level: Writers, directors and producers wishing to move into TV series or sitcom.

Getting story ideas for an episode of a sitcom or a drama series is one thing. Turning these ideas into a proper TV episode under the stringent rules of the plotting table is another. It requires application and practice.

To service the need for plotting practice, this workshop consists of a day-long practical class on how to plot series episodes. Linda Aronson plays the role of head writer and participants take it in turns to be in the hot seat as the episode writer, plotting an episode of TV drama (50 or 25 minute) or sitcom.

The series or sitcom used as the basis of the exercise is always well-known but no longer in production, so participants have no worries about their ideas being used by others.

The day trains writers in the complex and demanding technique of close plotting to order under stress. Participants will normally be asked to view an episode of the series in class. In the case of 50 minute drama series, they will normally be asked to view episodes of the series before the workshop.
